How much does it cost to have a floor laid in 2026?
Laying laminate costs €9 to €15 per m² in labour in 2026, and €18 to €40 per m² if the laminate, underlay and skirting boards are included. A PVC floor is €31 to €77 per m², a poured floor €55 to €105 per m² including application. These are guide prices from the market: the state of your subfloor often makes the difference, and you only see that once the old floor is out.
How much does floor installation cost per m² in 2026?
With floors the surprise is almost never the floor itself, but what lies underneath it. Levelling, removing the old floor and hauling away the debris add up to roughly 25 euros per m², and those items are missing from plenty of quotes. Below you will find the labour per floor type first, then the preparation work.
| Flooring work | Guide price 2026 | What drives the difference |
|---|---|---|
| Laying laminate, labour only | 8 to 18 euros per m² | A straight room with no obstacles is the low end; thresholds, alcoves and cupboards mean fitting work |
| Laminate complete, with underlay and skirting | 18 to 40 euros per m² | This includes the laminate itself, which runs from 6 to 35 euros per m² |
| Laying laminate in a pattern (herringbone or diagonal) | 20 to 40 euros per m² | More sawing and more offcuts than straight planks; Trustoo lists this as a separate item next to the standard labour price |
| Laying vinyl or LVT, labour only | 10 to 35 euros per m² | Click vinyl is the low end, glued vinyl on a levelled floor the high end |
| Laying parquet, labour only | 15 to 60 euros per m² | Herringbone and Hungarian point take far more hours than straight planks |
| Laying carpet, labour only | 8 to 20 euros per m² | The fastest floor to lay, but stairs and corners weigh heavily |
| Laying a tiled floor, labour only | 15 to 65 euros per m² | Tile size and laying pattern; large format needs two people |
| Poured resin floor, including application | 40 to 175 euros per m² | At 20 to 50 m² Coatingvloer charges 150 to 200 euros per m², at 200 m² and up it drops to 40 to 60 |
| Levelling the floor | 6 to 30 euros per m² | Unavoidable under vinyl and resin floors; for a badly damaged base Trustoo quotes up to 75 euros per m² |
| Removing and disposing of the old floor | 3 to 30 euros per m² | Loose laminate lifts straight out, a glued floor or old resin floor has to come off by machine |
| Fitting skirting boards | 3 to 8 euros per linear metre | The number of corners and whether the skirting is delivered painted |
| Underfloor heating beneath a resin floor | 25 to 40 euros per m² extra | Requires a longer drying time and a suitable build-up |
| Floor fitter hourly rate | 30 to 60 euros per hour | For a whole room almost everyone quotes per m² rather than per hour |
Guide prices for the Netherlands in 2026, collected on 15 August 2026. All amounts exclude VAT; Klussendirect and Coatingvloer state this explicitly with their rates. Laying a floor carries 21% VAT. Only the labour on floor insulation falls under 9%, and only if the home is older than 2 years.
Hourly rate
€30 - €80per hour
Call-out charge
€0 - €50
most flooring installers work per m² and include travel in that; for a small room some apply a minimum amount for the day
What makes up the price?
Labour
roughly 55% of the bill when laying a floor, on average €10 to €30 per m² depending on the material
Materials
roughly 45%: the floor itself, plus underlay, adhesive, skirting boards and profiles
Call-out charge
usually included in the price per m², together with the removal of the old material
Laying a floor is charged at the standard VAT rate of 21%, on labour and materials. If floor insulation is fitted as part of the same job, the labour for that part goes at 9% in a home older than 2 years; the insulation material stays at 21%. The Dutch tax authority publishes the conditions that apply.
What determines the price?
- Material: laminate and carpet are at the bottom, parquet, poured floors and concrete at the top
- State of the subfloor: levelling costs €10 to €30 per m² extra, and for PVC or a poured floor you cannot avoid it
- Does the old floor have to come out: expect €5 to €15 per m² for removal and disposal
- Laying pattern: herringbone, Hungarian point and diagonal laying require more sawing and more hours
- Surface area: in a large room the price per m² is lower, because less time goes into fitting and sawing along the edges
- Underfloor heating underneath: that requires a suitable floor, a thin adhesive layer and sometimes a longer drying time
- Region: flooring installers in the Randstad charge on average 10 to 20% more than elsewhere
- Thresholds, stair nosings and built-in cabinets: every obstacle is fitting work, and fitting work is hours

How much does laying laminate cost per m²?
Laying only is €9 to €10 per m². With underlay €11 to €12, and with underlay and skirting boards €13 to €14. If you want everything complete including the laminate itself, you are at €18 to €40 per m².
How much does having a PVC floor laid cost?
Expect €31 to €77 per m². Click PVC is the cheapest variant. Glued PVC costs more, partly because of the adhesive work and partly because the subfloor then really has to be level. For a living room of 30 m² you end up at roughly €1,350 to €2,700 all-in.
How much does a poured floor cost per m²?
On average €55 to €105 per m² including application. If you want underfloor heating underneath, that goes up to €150 to €175 per m². For a larger surface the price per m² drops, because preparation and curing take the same time at 40 as at 120 m².
Does my floor need to be levelled first?
For PVC and poured floors, almost always, because every bump and every seam shows in the finish floor. With laminate on a thick underlay there is more tolerance. Levelling costs €10 to €30 per m². Have the installer assess this once the old floor is out, not before.
How much does removing my old floor cost?
€5 to €15 per m², depending on the type of floor and what is underneath. A glued floor or an old poured floor has to come off mechanically and costs more than loose laminate. Ask whether disposing of the rubble is in the price.
Can I have my wooden floor sanded instead of replaced?
If the wear layer is thick enough, that is often the better choice: €25 to €45 per m² including multiple sanding passes and an oil or lacquer finish. For engineered parquet that can only be done a limited number of times, so have the thickness of the wear layer assessed first.
Why do quotes for the same floor diverge so much?
Usually because one quote includes the preparation and the other does not. Levelling, old floor out, disposal and skirting boards together easily add €25 per m². So compare the total price for the same room instead of the price per m² of the floor itself.
Does the reduced 9% VAT rate apply to laying a floor?
No, laying a floor is charged at 21%, and so are levelling the subfloor and removing the old one. If floor insulation is fitted as part of the same job, the labour for that part does go at 9%, provided the home is older than 2 years. The insulation material itself stays at 21%. Ask your floor fitter to list the insulation part separately in the quote.
