Hourly rate

€40 - €65per hour

Call-out charge

€20 - €50

depending on the distance; for larger jobs this is often already included in the price per m²

What makes up the price?

Labour

roughly 30 to 40% of the bill; a single pane is often 1 to 2 hours of work, including sealing and finishing

Materials

the glass itself is the largest part, plus sealant, glazing beads, rubbers and setting blocks

Call-out charge

usually €20 to €50 per visit, already included in the price per m² for larger jobs

This falls under the standard VAT rate of 21%, on both labour and materials. The reduced rate of 9% only applies to painting, plastering, wallpapering and the insulation of floors, walls and roofs in a home older than 2 years, plus cleaning work inside the home. If that kind of work is part of the same job, only that part is charged at 9%. The Dutch tax authority publishes the conditions that apply.

What determines the price?

  • Type of glass: single glazing is the cheapest, laminated safety glass and triple glazing the most expensive
  • Size and weight of the pane: large panes need two men or a glass suction lifter
  • State of the frame: rotten wood, a sagging frame or too shallow rebates must first be repaired or adjusted
  • Accessibility: a pane on the second floor or against a steep facade requires a ladder lift or scaffolding
  • Urgency: outside office hours or at the weekend the rate is 30 to 60% higher
  • Number of panes at once: with multiple windows the price per m² drops, because the glazier only comes once
  • Extras such as solar-control or acoustic glass, a vent or a decorative pattern

Frequently asked questions

How much does replacing one pane cost?

For single glazing, usually €80 to €160 for a small pane and €150 to €300 for a large one. For double glazing, expect €200 to €450 per pane, depending on the size and type of glass.

How much does HR++ glazing cost per m²?

Expect €150 to €190 per m² including installation, sealing and removing the old glass. For a larger project the price per m² often drops slightly, because the glazier can work more efficiently.

How much does a glazier charge per hour?

About €40 to €65 per hour excluding glass. In practice, most glaziers prefer a price per pane or per m², because the glass is the largest part of the bill.

Does my insurance cover a broken pane?

Often yes. For homeowners, glass in frames usually falls under the buildings insurance, sometimes through separate glass cover. If you rent, glass damage to the property is usually for the landlord. Check your policy and ask for an itemised invoice, which you can then submit.

Can I be helped the same day after a breakage?

The emergency boarding usually, at €150 to €350. The final pane often comes a few days later, because insulating glass is made to measure. Mention in your job description that it is urgent, and professionals respond faster.

Does HR++ glass fit in my existing frames?

That depends on the rebate. HR++ is about 24 mm, much thicker than single glazing, so it does not simply fit in old frames with a shallow rebate. Sometimes the glazier can rout out the rebate, sometimes a thinner insulating glass or secondary glazing is the better solution. Have this assessed on site.

Is triple glazing worth the extra cost?

Only if the rest of your home is already well insulated and you heat with low-temperature heating. If you are currently on single or old double glazing, the step to HR++ delivers by far the most savings per euro invested. Triple glazing is also heavier, so the frame must be able to take it.

Do I get a subsidy on insulating glass?

As a homeowner you can apply for ISDE subsidy for replacing single or old double glazing with HR++ or triple glazing. A minimum number of square metres applies and the glass must meet the insulation requirements. The amounts are set per year, so check rvo.nl before commissioning.

Does the reduced 9% VAT rate apply to glazing work?

No, you pay 21% VAT on this, on labour as well as materials. The reduced 9% rate is limited to painting, plastering, wallpapering and the insulation of floors, walls and roofs in a home older than 2 years, plus cleaning work inside the home. If the same professional also does that kind of work as part of your job, that part may be charged at 9%. Ask for a quote that lists the parts separately, so you can see which rate applies to what.
